A design about the experience of gender dysphoria, specifically the feeling of depersonalization in my lyric poem, "The Inadvertent Pilot". I had tried many, many times to describe this feeling to my loved ones but I don’t think they understood until recently. It affected me quite badly until I medically transitioned, then POOF it was gone in mere months. The Tarot Card format represents the random drawing of lives just as it always has. Transgender people drew this card when they were born, The Inadvertent Pilot.

The Design: A huge steel robot with male features lumbers forward in a pink, white, and blue (transgender flag colors) landscape, a distressed, naked, blond woman looks out of the chest cavity. The scene is set in a classic tarot card format.

Text:
Act 1:
People mistake my pause,
Before every move,
Before every response,
For thoughtfulness,
When I am only trying to figure out how to throw the levers,
Act 2:
Now my hands are my own,
My breasts are mine,
My face forever changed,
Changed into myself.

Signed, Summer in Philly

* "Depersonalization affects your ability to recognize your thoughts, feelings and body as your own. It might feel like you’re watching yourself play a role in a movie rather than living your life. For example, if you’re grocery shopping, you might feel like you’re watching someone else push your cart, select food from the shelves and go through the check-out line. Or you might not recognize your reflection in the glass doors of the frozen section." - ClevelandClinic.org
